What's in a Name?

If you've read my first post, you know that Phoebe's name is perfect for us. Now that I have the referral and her given name, the conversation about names came up again. You may be interested to know...

Phoebe's given name is Tong Min Yin. "Tong" her surname, and comes from county where she is living "Tonggu" county. "Min" means 'people', and "Yin" means 'the ruler'.

Phoebe's name will become Phoebe Liat-Yin Zavod. Liat (LeeAht) is Hebrew for 'you are mine.' Liat was an early leader in my personal name game. Liat will also become her Hebrew name, and she is named for my Great Aunt Lilian.

I'm on the phone with a friend, Eric, and he says her initials, PLYZ, pronounced 'please' might become that name used when Mom hits her boiling point... PLYZ !!!!!

Then another friend pointed out the mix of cultures her name represents... Greek, Hebrew, Chinese, Russian.
Potential joke material!

And the combined meaning... Moon, Mine, Ruler, Factory... I see "night-shift manager" in her future!

  2. Her name is beautifully meaningful! You are truly about to embark on the most amazing journey of love. Those who have gone before, get goosebumps thinking about it and wishing that we could do it all over again. Well, I did, I have two precious girls from China. Soak up every second, take lots of photos, squeeze those precious little cheeks and kiss her a thousand times! Best wishes. I will be following and looking forward to meeting you soon! Congratulations!

  3. A beautiful choice! Congratulations from another Tonggu momma, who arrived home with our little one five years ago. (Bring barrettes and such... Tonggu girls typically have a ton of hair!)
